Day 11 - Extra-Ordinary

Normally, I would write a blog in response to the topic Annie chose for her previous blog. But sadly, Annie's Day 9 & Day 10 have not appeared yet, so I'm forced to create something on my own. I don't have a lot to say today, so I'll make it short and sweet.

Today, I asked my students what they were planning to do over Christmas Break. One of my students piped up and said ..

"I'm going to Alaksa." (Alaska in the middle of December?!?)
"Student, why are you doing that?"
"I've always wanted to see the Aurora Borealis."
"Student, do you know how cold it's going to be?!?!"
"-23 degrees Celsius." (That's -9.4F)

Many of you might, at first thought, think that this is a ludicrous plan. Alaska in December is not my first thought of a lovely Christmas vacation. However, I re-stumbled upon one of my favorite quotes today and changed my mind:

Overcome the notion that we must be regular...It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary.
~ Uta Hagan ~

You know what student, you go to Alaska in December. And have a fabulous time. Go be extra-ordinary.
