June: Murder on the Orient Express (Tristinn's Review)

Pop Quiz!

Who is the the best-selling author of all time?

--If you answered Shakespeare, you are right! If you answered Agatha Christie, you are almost right. She is, according to Wikipedia, the second best-selling author of all time.

And why go with the best-selling author when you can read the second best-selling author!? Our thoughts exactly!

Murder on the Orient Express is one of Agatha Christie's most famous novels featuring the one and only Detective Hercule Poirot. We chose this book because we wanted to make sure our year of reading included some stock classics. As you would expect with a mystery novel, the story begins by setting the stage. This stage of course happens to be the Orient Express. Detective Poirot finds himself traveling through the Orient on his way back to London for an important case when, as one would expect, a murder occurs. As the train has gotten stuck in back weather the passengers, and the murderer, are stuck on the train. Poirot is then enlisted to help the train officials find the murderer among the crew and passengers.

The bulk of the book is the dialogue between Poirot and the passengers as he slowly and methodically questions each and every one. After finishing his investigations, Poirot proposes two astonishing solutions to the murder. I could tell you what they were but sharing the solution to a mystery novel seems like bad form.

So, if you happen to find yourself on vacation on a cruise ship or you happen to be taking a road trip this summer, I recommend you take this short mystery novel with you. It won't ruin your vacation by overtaxing you mind and you'll feel incredibly accomplished after reading such a distinguished Class-ique!

WILLIAMS SCALE RATING: Fancy Cheese {A little bit goes a long, delicious way}
